Halloween is just around the corner, and I couldn’t resist making something extra fun for kids (and teachers!) this year. Enter… Monsters vs Witches — a colorful, silly, and slightly spooky board game that turns your classroom or small group into a Halloween playground! šŸ§ŒšŸ§™ā€ā™€ļø

I created this game thinking about all the chaos, giggles, and sugar-fueled energy that comes with Halloween. We tried it out with our own kids, and let me tell you… they were obsessed. Rolling the dice, answering fun questions, and ESPECIALLY performing goofy actions made for a fantastic time.

How It Works

The game is super simple: kids get divided into two teams - Monsters and Witches. They roll the dice, move around the board, and follow the instructions on the colorful spots:

  • 🟣 Purple – Answer a question

  • 🟠 Orange – Complete a fun action

  • 🟢 Green – Move forward

  • šŸ”“ Red – Move back

If a team can’t answer or perform the action, they go back a space. The first team to reach Finish wins!

What’s Included

This freebie comes with:

  • A 24-page board game full of monsters and witches. I printed it as a poster for extra large size (190% landscape on 4 pages laminated and taped together, see below).

  • Question and Action cards with fun reading and movement challenges - add reading practice to your game (you are welcome :)!

  • Teacher files to save prep time - print the board, pull up the questions on your screen, and play.

  • Tokens for Monsters and Witches.

It’s perfect for small groups (4 kids) or whole-class team play. And because we included the teacher files, you don’t even need to cut cards if you’re short on time!

How to Play

Playing Monsters vs Witches is a blast! Here’s a quick guide to get you started:

  1. Gather your players: Split into two teams, Monsters and Witches.

  2. Roll the dice: Take turns rolling and moving your team around the board.

  3. Follow the spots: Depending on the color you land on, answer questions or perform actions.

  4. Keep track of points: Each correct answer or action earns your team points.

  5. Celebrate the winner: The first team to reach the finish line wins!

Why This Game is Great for Kids

  • Encourages teamwork: Kids learn to work together and support each other.

  • Boosts confidence: Completing challenges helps build self-esteem.

  • Promotes learning: Fun questions and actions keep kids engaged while learning.

  • Flexible play: Perfect for parties, classrooms, or family game nights!

Tips for a Spooktacular Game Night

  • Set the mood: Dim the lights and play some spooky music to create a fun atmosphere.

  • Costumes encouraged: Invite everyone to dress up as their favorite monster or witch!

  • Snacks and treats: Have some Halloween-themed snacks on hand to keep the energy up.

  • Take breaks: If kids get too excited, take a quick break to refocus.

Happy Halloween, and may the best team win — Monsters or Witches! šŸ‘¾šŸ§™ā€ā™€ļø
